Old Communal Bakehouse

14/02/23

Many of you will have walked along the footpath by the side of the Bakehouse on The Moor or just stopped to visit this lovely bit of village history. But did you know that the Bakehouse and the adjacent plot of land was very generously donated to Coleorton Parish Council on behalf of the village by local residents Vena and Bernie Jacques? Vena was born in Coleorton and has lived in the village ever since. A plaque to acknowledge their generosity has just been installed on a tree stump half way down the plot alongside the footpath. The Bakehouse has been restored and is lovingly cared for by the Coleorton Heritage Group, and two lady councillors work to help keep the plot cleared of brambles and weeds. It is our aim to create a little garden here with largely native plants to give us all somewhere peaceful to visit, sit and reflect.
