During the last couple of years, the parish council has been gradually replacing old and rotten wooden benches with new recycled plastic benches. This gets plastic usefully out of the waste environment, they are much easier to maintain and hopefully will enjoy greater longevity than their wooden predecessors.
The bench on Beaumont Green, which had some considerable rot, has been attended to recently. This one was more difficult to do a straight replacement as it has concrete supports embedded into a concrete plinth. It has been “lovingly” refurbished by three willing parish councillors – to demonstrate and exercise their amazing demolition and carpentry skills – and to endeavour to save money by “doing it ourselves”. In fact, all of the benches we have replaced recently were removed and new ones installed by parish councillors – we like to think we’re useful!
By all means take a seat now on the Green – we’re just waiting for a run of good weather (remember those days?) to paint it.
