Repairs to the bridge on A42/J13 roundabout Flagstaff Island

Motorists travelling via the Flagstaff roundabout near Ashby are being advised to give themselves extra time or rethink their route due to emergency repair work taking place. This includes people who plan to attend Ashby Statutes Fair, which takes place over the next few days (14-18 of September).

Highways England is carrying out repair work to the bridge that crosses the A42 after a vehicle collided with a parapet. Lane closures are currently in place on the north side of the bridge and also on the A511 between Nottingham Road, Ashby and the Flagstaff roundabout (Junction 13 of the A42) to ensure motorists' safety until the repairs can be carried out.

Due to the extent of the damage caused to the barrier a specially-designed steel replacement has had to be ordered. It is anticipated that it will be three weeks before repairs are completed.

Blake Pain, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "Flagstaff roundabout is a very busy interchange and, understandably, this essential repair work is resulting in heavy congestion at peak times on the A42, A511 and A512. Highways England are working hard to repair the damage and we'd like thank motorists for their patience while this is carried out. We are working with them to see if they are ways to adapt the traffic management to help reduce congestion. In the meantime, we are asking motorists to either give themselves extra time if they know they need to travel via the junction, or to plan an alternative route."

A42 between junction 12 & 14 starting 3 September

Upcoming works on the A42 between junction 12 & 14 starting on 3rd September 2018 for approximately 2 weeks.

This is phase 2 of the A42 Grasslands and Wildflower Improvement Scheme. The 3rd phase will be in November. The works are part of the National Pollinator Strategy and Highway England's plan to protect bio-diversity. Safety is of prime concern so there will some traffic management in place while the work is being done.

RoadworksMessage from Eurovia

It has finally come to the time for us to say a sad goodbye from our onsite team at Eurovia Contracting as we have now demobilised our site office compound from the Ashby Rugby Club and moved on to the next project.

We hope we did OK but still want to do better on future projects. I wondered whether you could take a couple of minutes to fill in a short questionnaire >> and return it to me via email Thanks.

I am pleased to announce that we were invited to attend the Considerate Constructors Annual Award Ceremony in Manchester a couple of weeks ago and were thrilled when we were selected for a "Gold Award" for the A42 J13 Project by the panel of judges and were also over the moon to have received one of only 23 "Most Considerate Runner Up Awards" out of 341 projects registered with the scheme. This is a great achievement and are now known as the "Leicestershire A Team" within Eurovia Contracting North's Division.

I have had the pleasure of working on this scheme with the lovely people in the area both from a residential and business background. We have been honoured to be able to help the community in the area by carrying out works to enhance the Peggs Green Rec at Zion Hill, remove graffiti from the bus shelter, donate Hi Viz Vests to their First Community Responders (date TBA), to donate recycled road materials to the Swannington School to help with their Eco build, to loan barriers and cones to the Nature Trail in Newbold, to enhance the parking facilities at the Ashby Rugby Club, erect new gates and clean out their perimeter ditches and to donate a Defibrillator to the club which we hope will never be needed!

Our job on this extremely busy junction has been made very easy by the patience, and enormous co-operation shown throughout the works and we as a team would sincerely like to say a huge thank you to each and every one of the residents, to your companies and your staff for the help over the last 19 months. It has been appreciated by us all.

Safe travels.
Kind regards

Cleaning grafitti from the bus shelter

While the roadworks have caused us all some disruption Eurovia Contracting have provided Coleorton with some help with projects around the parish. They made some of their equipment and manpower available to help clean the grafitti from the bus shelter on the Ashby Road and cleaned the play surface at the Peggs Green Rec with their mobile jet washer and painted the goal posts. Thank you.
