Roads and traffic in and around Coleorton, Leicestershire

Vehicle-activated speed sign

The speed sign has now been installed on the Moorlands. It will be moved regularly around the Parish, however we are limited to lampposts LCC have authorised us to use. After various trials the Parish Council purchased the mobile, speed-activated warning sign for use on various roads in the Parish. We don’t have authority to place the signs on the the A511 and A512. It’s a mobile unit which attaches to a lamppost or other post and so can be moved to different areas of the Parish.

Leicestershire Local Transport Plan

The third Leicestershire Local Transport Plan (LTP3) has now been formally approved and adopted by full Council.  It is now Leicestershire County Council highways and transportation policy. LTP3 and its supporting documents can be viewed on the Leicestershire County Council web-site from 1st April 2011 at: www.leics.gov.uk/Ltp/current_transport_plans.

Winter driving

Chief Inspector Chris Baker said: “Thieves see frosty mornings as an opportunity. They get up early and look for cars to steal. While it may be tempting to nip back into your house or flat while the windscreen is clearing, I would ask you to stay with your vehicle. If your car is stolen while you have left your keys in it you may find your insurance will not cover you. You could also be guilty of an offence if you leave the engine running while it is parked on the road.” For more crime prevention advice, see: http://support.leics.police.uk/crime-prevention

The county council grit main routes when the temperature falls below zero. But weather is unpredictable so don’t assume the road is gritted unless you can see the grit.  Also the grit doesn’t always reach across the whole road - especially on wide junctions such as the junction of The Moor / Lower Moor Road and the A512.  Check the LCC web site gritting page for further information and gritting routes and tips on winter driving.

2 salt bins have been placed in the parish - at Beaumont Green and Bakewells Lane (A512 end).
