Coleorton Heritage Group.
This group is making good progress with the interviewing of long time residents of Coleorton, and some very useful details are now being archived. We are also looking at more people to be interviewed to build further on this information.
We are still planning to collect specific detail on the history and development of the Lower Moor area, so if you feel you can help with this do please contact the heritage wardens.
The group is now planning to produce a leaflet on the heritage of Coleorton which should be of interest to both local people as well as visitors to the village.
Progress on Coleorton Wood.
The Parish Council are discussing the possible purchase of Coleorton Wood with LCC.
New Lount Reserve. The heritage wardens have had a meeting with the Head Ranger for the local LCC Parks and Reserves to understand how the heritage group may be able to assist if the site remains with LCC. Once we know who the owners of the site will be we will sit down with them to discuss what possible input the heritage group may have. It is likely that we will be asked to organise local volunteers that can assist with some of the work on site.
Collecting and collating Census information for Coleorton.
I am afraid this is progressing very slowly as there are many other matters to attend to. I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who could assist with this task. I am still working on the 1871 census. See 1841,1851 and 1861 already transcribed >>
Working with Ashby Museum on John Crocker material and research into the history of Coleorton.
We have now started to catalogue this material and whilst it will take a very long time to complete it all, those interested in researching the material should contact the museum. We have already been able to assist two local historians using material from this fine collection.

War Memorial Project
I am continuing to collect biographical information on those individuals listed on the war memorial; to date I have completed 15 out of 24 for WW1 and there are 5 from WW2 to do. If anyone has information, photographs, etc relating to those mentioned on the war memorial please contact the heritage wardens.
I am also investigating if the surrounding villages have war memorials. These include:- Farm Town, Gelsmoor, Gracedieu, New Swannington, Peggs Green, Griffydam, and Newbold. If anyone knows of any war memorials, either in the villages, or in buildings within the villages then please contact the heritage wardens.
Repairs to War Memorial
The Parish Council has managed to secure additional funding to allow repairs to the war memorial to be carried out. This work, which will include cleaning and repairing the memorial will be carried out in the spring, once the frosty weather has ceased.
