Coleorton and New Lount Volunteer Group - a year of hard work and fun in the open air

Repairing fences at New LountThe Coleorton and New Lount Volunteer Group have had a busy year keeping our two nature reserves in good order for humans and wildlife to enjoy. A band of Coleorton people have been busy in the woods tidying, cutting, building and in the workshops building benches, seats and garden ornaments. The latter were a big hit at the Plant Sales and helped bring in a some funds to buy equipment and supplies. The group have a busy schedule of work for 2017 and are looking for more volunteers to help with all kinds of tasks. Find out more about the group and how you could get involved >>

Corporal ToonColeorton Heritage Group

At its meeting on October 27th the Coleorton Heritage Group had a very full agenda and there was much discussion between the 15 members present. Topics included sites for the placement of plaques on houses of historic significance, new heritage discoveries made by members of the group and new projects including the preparation of a dossier of contemporary house photographs. Stories of previous Coleorton residents are always interesting. Terry Ward discovered an article in the Coalville Times of 4 February 1916 about Coleorton man Corporal Toon who was awarded the Military Medal. Read more about Corporal Toon >>.

Further Wartime Memories can be found in the Coleorton Heritage Group's beautifully illustrated book "Memories of Coleorton" (new edition). More about the Group and the Memories book >>

HS2 Route - new proposals

After some concerns raised in previous consultations alternative routes around Measham and changes to avoid a tunnel under the East Midlands Airport have been proposed. These are unlikely to affect Coleorton directly but have some impact on areas south and East of Measham and around Worthington. There is a further consultation period on these amendmants ending 9 March 2017 so if you have any comments on the proposed new routes make contact via the consultation process. About Coleorton Parish

Coleorton Parish includes the villages of Coleorton, Coleorton Moor, Church Town and Farm Town as well as parts of Peggs Green, Griffydam and Lount. The Parish Plan survey in 2008 found that parishioners felt communication of information throughout the parish was not effective and so a website was set up to address this. The website has now become a centre of information about activities and events in and around Coleorton, local clubs and organisations, a directory for local businesses and services and a platform for people who would like to share their enthusiasm for local history and the environment.

If you would like to contribute any item about Coleorton or surrounding areas or add details of your club, organisation or event (no charge) or have any suggestions for items on this website please email webmaster@coleorton.org.uk.

Local businesses and services

Coleorton residents are an enterprising bunch: the latest Coleorton businesses listed in the local services directory include IT specialists, photographers and dog walkers. Email webmaster@coleorton.org.uk if you would like your local business listed (free of charge for Coleorton-based businesses or owners).
