Post Office Anniversary

It's a year since the new owners of Coleorton Post Office took over. They had big shoes to fill after Stella Lucas looked after the Post Office so well. But Suki, her daughter and family have done a stirling job. Welcoming and friendly, they are a great asset to our village. Thank you and we look forward to many years of your lovely smiles as we post our parcels and buy our birthday cards.

LED Street Lighting

Leicestershire County Council are rolling out a program of replacing the orange sodium street lights with white LED lights. Benefits of the LED lights are:

  • Cheaper to run - use less power for the same illumination (as you know from LED lights in the home)
  • Last longer - so reduced maintenance costs
  • They are controllable remotely - so their brightness and the times they are on can be modified centrally

This means that some lights that were switched off overnight to save money could be left on. The whole thing should be much more flexible. There are arguments both ways about whether more lighting reduces crime or just allows criminals to see what they are doing. So it's a very local decision. Let the LCC know if you and your neighbours feel the lighting programme needs changing.

The LED lights are different from the orange/yellow sodium ones. Some people will prefer one or the other. With LED lights you don't get that orange glow in the sky at night but the light tends to be more directional. On the other hand the sodium lights also left shadowy areas where pedestrians could be invisible.

If you have any concerns about LED or any other street lights please contact the LCC Highways. Contact details on LCC Highways website at

About Coleorton Parish

Coleorton Parish includes the villages of Coleorton, Coleorton Moor, Church Town and Farm Town as well as parts of Peggs Green, Griffydam and Lount. The Parish Plan survey in 2008 found that parishioners felt communication of information throughout the parish was not effective and so a website was set up to address this. The website has now become a centre of information about activities and events in and around Coleorton, local clubs and organisations, a directory for local businesses and services and a platform for people who would like to share their enthusiasm for local history and the environment.

If you would like to contribute any item about Coleorton or surrounding areas or add details of your club, organisation or event (no charge) or have any suggestions for items on this website please email
