Do you have a local group or community project that could benefit from some extra cash?

There are a number of funding offers from various organisations, including LCC, NWDLC and the BIG Lottery Fund, aimed at helping small local groups and communities achieve their aims. Applications for these funds requires a bit of work, but once you've done one subsequent applications will be easier. A bit of extra cash can make the difference between achieving your goal and just dreaming. Read about grants listed on our Noticeboard >>

As an example of what can be done with a bit of extra funding - Newbold Heritage Group applied for and obtained a grant from Biffa to help with creating a Heritage Trail at New Lount. More about the New Lount Colliery Heritage Trail >>

Leicesteshire Villages website is closing

The Leicestershire Villages website supported by LCC is closing at the end of August. The updates have been patchy and use is dwindling so the LCC are closing it in view of their reduced budgets. One facility on the site that has had some use is the Leicestershire History forum. People use it to search for relatives and ancestors. If you have been using it and relying on the data collected visit the site and copy off any info you need.

The Coleorton Heritage Group may be able to help you with information about ancestors and family who lived in the area. The group is currently researching some of Coleorton's oldest families and would be grateful for any information you may have. Also visit the Coleorton History page and check out some of the links from there.

About Coleorton Parish

Coleorton Parish includes the villages of Coleorton, Coleorton Moor, Church Town and Farm Town as well as parts of Peggs Green, Griffydam and Lount. The Parish Plan survey in 2008 found that parishioners felt communication of information throughout the parish was not effective and so a website was set up to address this. The website has now become a centre of information about activities and events in and around Coleorton, local clubs and organisations, a directory for local businesses and services and a platform for people who would like to share their enthusiasm for local history and the environment.

If you would like to contribute any item about Coleorton or surrounding areas or add details of your club, organisation or event (no charge) or have any suggestions for items on this website please email
